An American champion at the age of 18, Wells is America’s brightest prospect in years.
After impressing the Coventry management with his performances in the World Under-21 Championship in 2008, the Bees signed Wells for 2009 with the intention of loaning him to a Premier League side. However, when the rules changed it meant that Wells was ineligible and therefore was put in to the Coventry side.
Understandably, he struggled to adapt to the Elite League and after a tough year he was loaned to Premier League Stoke for 2010. Although not quite hitting the heights that many expected early on, Wells became a solid performer for the Potters and achieved an average of over five and a half points.
In 2011, Wells stepped back up to the Elite League with Wolverhampton, a place where he had put in some of his best performances in his time with Coventry. Wells’ second spell in the top league was far more successful than his first and he became a favourite at Monmore Green for his never-say-die attitude.
After finishing the season riding for Plymouth in the Premier League, Wells was snapped up by Sheffield for the forthcoming season. Many of his best performances have come at Owlerton in the past and he should be a strong asset for the Tigers in 2012.
