SHEFFIELD co-promoter Damien Bates believes their fans can give them an extra edge in Thursday’s SGB Championship play-off semi-final first leg against Glasgow (7.30).

The Window Centre Tigers are facing their biggest meeting of the season so far and are expecting a big crowd as they aim to move one step closer to a first league title since 2002.

It is sure to be a fantastic occasion against a star-studded Glasgow side – and Bates has issues a rallying cry to supporters to give their side an added boost in what is sure to be a tense encounter.

He said: “I’d like to think we’ll get a big crowd, but we need the people of Sheffield to get behind us.

“It’s a massive meeting, a play-off semi-final, and Glasgow are always an attractive opposition because they’ve got some top riders.

“It can be hard to attract a crowd to speedway, but this is a big occasion and I’m sure we’ll get some fantastic racing.

“The fans can really be the eighth man for us, so we need them to cheer on the team and hopefully help us get a big lead to take up to Glasgow for the second leg.”
