SHEFFIELD are celebrating landing another major event at Owlerton Stadium.

Tigers will host the Championship Pairs on a new date of Sunday October 8 (5pm) - after the original staging was postponed last month.

It's a major feather in the cap of the ambitious club owners with one of the best-ever line-ups for the meeting in prospect.

British Speedway Chairman Keith Chapman said: "We were all gutted to lose the original staging at Somerset the night before the Grand Prix in Cardiff, the Somerset management did everything in their power to get the meeting on.

"Sheffield are a well-run club with a lot of ambition and after studying the international calendar we feel the event will be well suited to Owlerton Stadium on that Sunday. It should be a great occasion."

Sheffield co-promoter Damien Bates said: "We are honoured to be given this prestigious meeting and we will look to do our job as well as Somerset have done traditionally.

"I'm hoping the place will be packed and these are exciting times for everyone at Sheffield with the team riding well and now this big event to look forward to."

Tigers are back at Owlerton this Thursday, August 10, when they face Workington including British champion Craig Cook (7.30).
