SHEFFIELD bosses would like to thank supporters for their patience after Thursday's fixture against Ipswich was eventually postponed.

A heavy downpour hit the Owlerton circuit just after 7pm and put the meeting in doubt.

Both sets of riders were keen to give it a go, but the rain persisted and shortly after 8pm, as conditions continued to get worse, the meeting was called off.

Tigers co-promoter Peter Mole said: "We're absolutely gutted because we were in for a great meeting against the Witches.

"The forecast wasn't anything like how the weather has panned out in the end and that always makes a rain-off even more frustrating than they already are in the first place.

"The track was good and credit to the riders, they wanted to get on with the racing.

"But the rain kept coming down and it would have made visibility very difficult for the riders and their safety is paramount at the end of the day.

"We thank everyone who turned out tonight for their patience; the riders really wanted to put a show on for them but in the end the weather beat us.

"We hope the weather is much kinder next week because Glasgow are in town and that is going to be a fabulous meeting."

A new date for the Ipswich fixture is yet to be agreed.
