TIGERS 50 IPSWICH 42

Thursday July 19, 2012
AMERICAN STAR Ricky Wells led Sheffield to a hard-fought win over Ipswich in tough conditions at Owlerton on Thursday.

The USA World Cup man notched 14 points to inspire his side to an eight point victory including some vital wins in the middle of the match. Both sets of riders rode admirably on a wet track, with consistent rainfall throughout the evening making visibility poor.

It was the home side who adapted the better though, and they made some fast starts to leave their opponents chasing the meeting. Sheffield built a 12-point lead but three heat advantages in four heats dragged Ipswich right back in the contest.

Sheffield hit back with three of their own however and from there they were comfortable, although the away side still had a chance of a consolation point going into the last heat.

A 3-3 from Richard Hall and Ricky Wells secured all three league points for the home team and erased the memory of last week's home defeat to Scunthorpe.

Sheffield 52: (Wells 14, Haines 10+2, Skidmore 9, Hall 8+1, Franc 5+3, Schramm 4, Sanchez rider replacement.)

Ipswich 48: (Tresarrieu 11, Lanham 11, North 9, Doolan 5+2, Risager 4+1, Tungate 1+1, Heeps 1.)
